David Feehan has been teaching vocals for over 30 years and because of his extensive background singing jazz, opera,

gospel/church, R&B, rock, soul and blues he is able to teach people within a variety of musical disciplines. David has been a vocal

tutor at Wellington's Whitireia Polytechnic (1990 – 1997) and Massey University’s Wellington Music (1998 – 2006) and has taken

workshops all over the country in churches, universities, music festivals and a variety of other institutions.

He worked as a guest tutor with the prestigious Tuscany Music Project when they held a clinic in Nelson, NZ in 2011 and has attended

the Project course in Perugia, Italy twice, and studied in New York and San Diego. The top young jazz vocalist prize at the Tauranga

Jazz Festival, the world’s oldest continuous jazz festival, is the David Feehan Trophy; such is his mana as a Jazz singer/tutor in NZ.

David now works mostly from his own studios in the city in Wellington, NZ, and has three other tutors working with him, Emma Davey

(Wellington) and Fiona Bee (Kapiti Coast), plus a studio thesingstitute.com in Mid Levels, Hong Kong run by Blake Feehan, David’s

son and a fantastic singer/songwriter and recording artist in his own right.

All have many years of experience both in teaching vocals and in performing and various vocal tutors have extensive knowledge in

stage work and dancing.

The tutors at Tapestry work on breathing, intonation, diction, style, versatility, physicality, mouth structure, expanding the range,

closing the gap and working on trouble spots, confidence, mic technique, nerves and stage fright, projection, etc, etc. And they

encourage new students to set their own goals, pushing their own boundaries in the fine art of contemporary singing, with the tutors

help and advice.

David and Blake have extensive libraries of CDs etc which can be borrowed for learning and tuition prices are very reasonable.

Because most people are not fully professional, Tapestry encourages fortnightly lessons, however if there are specific goals being

aimed at or the person is wanting many lessons to work on a song, say to perform at a wedding or to record in the studio, then

obviously  the tutors are happy to oblige with these specific goals. Students can be any age and do not have to understand music.

All they need to have is a love of music and singing and be prepared to work hard at their craft.

The techniques being used are proven and follow much of the teachings of Elizabeth Sabine, plus

other top vocal tutors from around the world. David regularly attends vocal clinics himself to

up-skill so that the tutors can pass on new found skills to the students. There are many students

who have gone on to become top performers and recording artists, that can attribute much

of that success to the tutors at Tapestry.
